Unemployment in Humboldt County sees increase over holiday season

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA. – The unemployment rate in Humboldt County went up during the holiday season, but is lower than recent years.

Data collected for December shows unemployment at 3.6% – up .3% since November, which translates to the loss of about 400 jobs.

However, since December 2015, unemployment is down by nearly a whole percentage point.

Over the past year, industries with the most job growth in the county have been in leisure, hospitality, mining and logging.

Humboldt is ranked 13th in lowest unemployment out of 58 counties statewide.

As for the job with the most ads in the county – that goes for registered nurses.

Del Norte currently sees higher unemployment, at about 6%, putting them at 38th out of 58 counties.
