Man walking with loaded rifle arrested in McKinleyville

MCKINLEYVILLE, CA. – A man is arrested for walking around with a loaded firearm in McKinleyville.

A Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted 29-year-old Brandon James Phelps carrying a rifle on the 1400 block of Glendale Drive, just before 3AM Sunday. There are frequent cases of members of the public being spotted with a gun in their hand which turns out to be an air or pellet gun which they are taking with them to shooting practice or for recreational use. While you can learn more about pellet guns here, this was unfortunately not the case with Phelps.

The deputy detained Phelps without incident, and found his rifle to be loaded.

Phelps also had another firearm, an unloaded pistol, in his pocket.

Phelps was booked into the Humboldt County Jail on multiple firearm charges.
