Humboldt Transit Authority honors bus driver who saved man after crash

EUREKA – A bus operator was honored Wednesday for saving another driver’s life after the man’s truck struck the bus head on.
The HTA Board of Directors recognized Christian Coronado for remaining calm after the collision and helping the injured driver to safety.
On November 30, 2017 Coronado was driving east on Highway 299 on the way to start his route in Willow Creek.
The male driver of a Dodge Dakota lost control of his truck, struck the front of the bus and caught fire. Coronado extinguished the fire and removed the unconscious man from the cab.
Supervisor Rex Bohn commended Coronado for his courageous act.
In response to all the attention Coronado said he was just doing his job.
“We try to go above and beyond to help our community and to work with all kinds of people and sometimes it means helping someone out who’s injured or hur,” said Driver & Transit Trainer, Humboldt Transit Authority Christian Coronado.
