Fortuna author memorializes cousin lost to shooting in new book

FORTUNA, CA. – A Fortuna author is raising funds for local students with the publishing of her latest book.

Released Wednesday, Standing Sideways was inspired when author J. Lynn Bailey lost her cousin Jason in a tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College in 2015.

The book is about a girl who loses her twin brother – Jason had been a twin.

All proceeds from Standing Sideways will go towards the Jason Dale Triumphant Return Scholarship to benefit College of the Redwoods re-entry students – all in Jason’s memory.

“He was an amazing human being and awful things happen, and this book came from that. It’s about courage and love, bravery and addiction, but mostly it’s about hope. That’s really what i want readers to take away from this book is hope,” said author J. Lynn Bailey.
