Arcata man convicted, could face six years in prison

EUREKA- An Arcata man with a long criminal history now faces up to six years in prison.

Rafael Martinez, 42, was convicted by a Humboldt County jury Wednesday on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglars tools and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.

After the verdict, the judge noted Martinez had multiple grants of probation for prior convictions.

He had also previously been convicted of robbery, considered a “strike” under state law.
Due to that, this conviction normally carries a three year sentence, but the strike could double that.
