Millions in funding approved for clean-energy microgrid at Arcata-Eureka Airport

MCKINLEYVILLE, CA. – The Arcata-Eureka Airport is getting an energy upgrade.

With design by Humboldt State University’s Schatz Energy Research Center, the airport will be installing a clean energy microgrid, to “provide an energy lifeline for the airport in the event of a natural disaster.”

The micgogrid will also serve as to support the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station.

The California Energy Commission announced a $5,000,000 grant to go towards the project, which will be matched with $6,000,000 from the Redwood Coast Energy Authority.
