No Injuries Reported after Midnight Fire on Summer Street in Eureka

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- A house on Summer Street goes up in flames overnight. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A dozen fire fighters responded to the fire at 12:02 a.m. Sunday. By the time crews arrived no one was inside the home, and first responders were able to knock down the flames in just thirty minutes.

Still the interior of the house was scorched, accounting for more than $150,000 in lost property. An unattached garage was protected by fire crews.

For now the cause of the fire is under investigation. Humboldt Bay Fire crews want to take this opportunity to remind home-owners to check the batteries in their smoke detectors. Responding crews also note, in the case of this fire, clutter in the home allowed flames to spread more quickly and made conditions more difficult to navigate for crews.
