Firefighter Training: local rescuers apply classroom skills to realistic scenarios

EUREKA, CA. – Local firefighters spent the day training for success in Eureka.

Sponsored by the Humboldt County Fire Instructors Association, on Thursday firefighters ranging from Humboldt Bay to Crescent City gathered for the training.

Their job requires physical strength, but also the thought process of an engineer – as they practiced calculating pressures to pump hose lines.

The forty hour class is focused on bringing what firefighters learn in the classroom straight into the field.

“People are able to get this training locally, and not out of the area, which leads to them taking more classes and being more trained, and better able to serve the community,” said Fire Captain Jon Chambers of Humboldt Bay Fire.
