Nine local officers honored for stolen vehicle recovery

Eureka., Ca (KIEM)- Nine members of local law enforcement agencies are being recognized for their exceptional efforts in recovering stolen vehicles.

During the ceremony put on by triple-A auto insurance, California highway patrol presented each officer with the “10851” stolen vehicle recovery award. The award is presented to officers who recover both unoccupied and occupied stolen vehicles. On average, about eight cars are stolen every day in northern California, but about ninety-two percent are recovered, and half of which is returned to the original owner. More often then not, the vehicle is unoccupied when located, but in some cases, police catch criminals in the act.

Parking your car in a highly visible location, locking all the doors and not leaving the car running unattended is just a few things you can do to avoid being a victim of car theft.
