Eureka assault victim arrested after leaving hospital and allegedly stealing alcohol

EUREKA, CA. – Eureka Police officers responded to a call of shots fired on West 15th Street Thursday night at about 7:30.

A Eureka man who was beaten on the front porch of a home went from the hospital, to a jail cell.

When police arrived, they found 42-year-old Elliot Greer, who said he had been chased by three people.

He ran to a nearby house for help, where he says he was assaulted on the porch until the homeowner came out and fired two shots into the air.

The suspects then fled.

Police say Greer was taken to the hospital, but left on foot after being treated.

A short while later, he was seen walking near the intersection of Harris and Dolbeer streets – minutes after he stole two bottles of alcohol and other items from the Eureka Safeway.

He was taken to jail for public intoxication.

The investigation into who assaulted him is ongoing, and anyone with more information should contact the Eureka Police Department.
