Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- It’s a follow up to a town hall hosted by supervisor Virginia Bass and Senator Mike McGuire in November. A chance to bring advocates and healthcare professionals, activists and community members together in one room, to formulate solutions to an ever present problem in the county.

The opiod overdose rate in Humboldt County is nearly five times the state average. The North Coast is on the front lines of the national opiod epidemic, and it’s a deeply personal, and at times contentious issue. Supervisor Virginia Bass says she’s met a lot of people affected by addiction. “It just reminds me we all probably know somebody who has been affected and these conversations are important.” She says.

The town hall will bring together healthcare professionals from Open Door and the Waterfront Recovery center. Activists for Harm Reduction and speakers from California Department of AIDS will also be present, and of course the community is invited to engage with the topic and lawmakers as well.
