Los Angeles man arrested for armed robbery

MCKINLEYVILLE – The Humboldt County Sheriff’s office makes an arrest in connection with an armed robbery and hostage situation in McKinleyville. Monday night, around 7:30, deputies got a call about a man brandishing a gun at a home in the 22-hundred block of Elizabeth Road.

When deputies arrived, they saw 23-year old Ronald O’Keefe Hardy of Los Angeles, walking down the road, and detained him. Witnesses told deputies that Hardy went to the home to buy marijuana, then proceeded to tie up and rob the subjects at gunpoint, and hit one of them in the head with his gun.

The homeowner got his gun and confronted Hardy. Deputies say Hardy then took one person hostage and left the home, firing his gun into a tree line. Witnesses told deputies the hostage and homeowner then struggled with Hardy, and got his gun. Hardy was in the process of leaving when deputies arrived. He was arrested and is now charged with robbery, assault with a firearm, kidnapping, false imprisonment and exhibiting a firearm.
