Humboldt County Spelling Bee champs will head to state

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA. – They’re Spelling Bee Kings and Queens.

The Humboldt County Office of Education is recognizing four champions of the 35th annual Humboldt County Spelling Bee, who will now be heading to state.

Back in march, 19 regional winners took part in the competition.

After seven tie-breaking words in the Elementary division, two co-champions emerged: Aurora Pitts, a fifth grader from Alder Grove Charter School, and Jackson Dehority, a fifth grader from Jacoby Creek School.

In the Junior High division, Abigail Wagner of Alder Grove Charter, and Kai Hansen of Sunny Brae Middle School were named co-champs.

These four will head to state competitions come May in Stockton and San Rafael.

The Humboldt County Office of Education’s Rising Stars Foundation will provide the students funds for travel.
