Search continues for vehicle in Eel River

MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA. – The search continues for a vehicle which veered off of Highway 101 and plunged into the Eel River on Friday, April 6.

On Wednesday, search crews from multiple were searching again in the Northern Mendocino County area.

A CHP helicopter assisted the efforts.

Unfortunately, rain has returned to the region, and CHP says this ‘has limited some of the techniques search teams can use’.

They say the teams will continue to evaluate the conditions of the river, and the current weather going forward.

The vehicle was seen going over the side of a steep embankment south of Dora Creek.

The Mendocino Sheriff’s Office, Leggett Volunteer Fire, Piercy Volunteer Fire and Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue are collaborating in the search, as Garberville CHP continues to lead the investigation.

There has been speculation the vehicle may belong to that of a Southern California family, who was traveling from Portland, Oregon to their Santa Clarita home.

They have not been heard from since Thursday.

We will continue to bring you updates.
