TRINIDAD, CA. – The Humboldt Coast Guard commends local fishermen for their quick action that saved the lives of five crew members in a boat fire.

Those aboard the Midori, called another fishing vessel, Charlie D, when a fire broke out onboard around 9AM Wendesday.

Charlie D contacted Coast Guard Humboldt Bay.

As Midori fishermen prepared to abandon ship, ten miles west of Trinidad, good Samaritans on the Pacific Bully arrived and rescued the crew members, before the Coast Guard arrived.

Another passing tug diverted and helped extinguish flames in the Midori’s pilothouse.

There were no serious injuries.

Those who helped mitigate the situation received hats off from Coast Guard Commander Brendan Hilleary.

Coast Guard pollution responders determined the Midori vessel is safe now to tow back to the Eureka Municipal docks.
