The 8-1-1: National Digging Safety Month Winds Down

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- Five gas leaks have been caused in Humboldt County so far this year. The diggers failed to call 8-1-1. That’s according to statistics from Pacific Gas and Electric.  March is National Safe Digging Month. It’s a public safety initiative supported by PG & E and more than 1,00  other utility companies. The goal? Raising awareness about the importance of having underground utility lines marked. Checking to make sure any planned excavation won’t cause damage.

8-1-1 is a toll free number used by homeowners and professional excavators to check on utility placement before you end up in digging yourself into a dangerous hole.
