Pine Hill Elementary and South Bay Elementary Receive Grants

Two local elementary schools benefit from a $2 million dollar program expansion lead by a statewide Turnaround Arts program.

The Turnaround Arts program added 10 high-need elementary and middle schools to it’s network, including Eureka’s- Pine Hill Elementary and South Bay Elementary. The program infuses art into classrooms to strategically support student learning.

World renowned architect, and a $1 million donor to the program, Frank Gheary, will make a visit to Pine Hill Elementary in the coming months.

The schools will use the grant money for supplies, to hire an art teacher, and professional development to sponsor a team of teacher leaders.

The art program expansion was made possible by an anonymous donor whom matched Gheary’s $1 million donation. South Bay Union District is excited to incorporate their new arts program in the beginning of Fall.
