Arcata, Ca., (KIEM)- A taco filled with local ranch raised beef, salsa designed by local school kids, and topped with sour cream from Humboldt Creamery: it sounds like a meal many of us would fork over our lunch money for. Today children in more than 60 Humboldt County School had exactly that lunch (some opted for vegetarian filling), because those ingredients were donated.

The beef came from local rancher Clint Victorine (owner of Eel River Organic Beef and Pacific Pastures Beef). He made the donation after deciding children should have access to fresh, local beef. Victorine meets the kids, helping them to understand where their food comes from. He also helped to launch the “Taco Tuesday” program six years ago.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Chris Hartley states, “We are fortunate to have an abundance of passionate ranchers and local businesses all working together to support and encourage healthy food choices in our schools.” He says the event also helps to underline the value and importance of buying local products.
