Humboldt Supervisors to appoint eight members to new Homeless Solutions Committee

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – Finding solutions to homeless issues on the North Coast is no easy task.

In February, Humboldt Supervisors voted to create a commission dedicated to this mission, and on Tuesday, will make the first appointments.

The new ‘Housing Trust Fund and Homeless Solutions Committee’ will be made up of eleven voting members.

After formal approval at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, eight of those seats will be filled.

Five come from each supervisors district by their recommendation, one is nominated from the Planning and Building Department, one from DHHS, another from the Housing and Homeless Coalition, one with experience in housing development, one at large member, and one member specifically of or representing the homeless population.

Here are the names of those to be appointed tomorrow:

Nezzie Wade – District 1
Fredrick Hoffman – District 2
Elizabeth Hoffman – District 3
Andrew Rix – District 4
George Wheeler – District 5
Lynn Martinez – Housing/Homeless Coalition
Paul Mushrush – Planning & Building
Sally Hewitt – DHHS
VACANT – At-Large Development
VACANT- At-Large Homeless
VACANT – At-Large

These appointees will serve four year terms, and will be responsible for ongoing review of homelessness assistance projects.

They will also recommend uses for Affordable Housing Trust Fund Money – to ‘ensure it’s used to assist the county in meeting its affordable housing goals, with an emphasis on bricks and mortar projects’.
