Arcata’s Mad River Hospital set aside the week to celebrate all healthcare workers in their facility for national hospital week. One of the ways they do this is with a giant barbeque.

The hospital received an outpouring of support from the community as they donated dozens of gifts for healthcare professionals this week. Twenty five gifts a day were given out to workers through a staff drawing.

Director of Ancillary Services, Jed Rudd, tells us that the most rewarding part about working in a hospital is that they can serve the community, and know that at the end of each day, they are helping make the world a better place. However, healthcare professionals also face major challenges each day.

Rudd says that you’ll often see your surgeon, doctors, and nurses, but it’s also important to recognize those working in the background, who are just as necessary in the success of a patient’s stay.
