Redding man back on his skateboard for cancer awareness

EUREKA- A Redding man is back on his skateboard making the trek from the North Coast to southern California. Darrin Burch is on a mission to promote cancer awareness. He left on Mothers day and hopes to complete the trip over the next few week. Manny Machado of Redwood News sat down with Darrin before he left on his trip.

Just five years ago, Darrin Burch got on a skateboard for the very first time. Then last year, he made the decision to travel on his board from Arcata to Los Angeles to promote cancer awareness. For him and his parents, it hits close to home. His dad died of cancer and he mom is undergoing treatment.

Along with promoting cancer awareness, Burch has seen a difference in his health. It’s the changes that has allowed him to make this journey.

Along the way, he has met many people, and got an up close look at the beauty of the golden state. He also has experiences he’ll never forget.

Last year, Burch even got lost along the way in Salinas adding more miles to his trip. But it was phone conversations with him mom kept him going. He reached Venice beach in 3 and a half weeks.
