Breaking mental health stigmas in Eureka

The Hope Center with the Department of Health and Human Services united nearly 300 community members at Carson Park today to break the stigma around mental health challenges.

Vendors throughout the county came out to the hope and wellness barbeque to build interactive connections with residents for Mental Health Awareness Month.

One of which, allowed members of the community to create inspirational quilts. Each quilt had its own sub category. One focused on suicide prevention, whereas another focused on breaking the stigma. People were able to express their creativity through these quilts to depict their feelings.

They found the event to be a place to speak freely in a non-judgement zone. There will also be a Willow Creek barbecue next Friday at the Veterans Park.
