Do You Make the Grade: EPD Issues Report Cards

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- The Eureka Police Department takes us back to our school days in their latest public safety initiative.

They’re using report cards to remind motorists to be smart and safe when they park their cars. Parking patrol officers and the old town officer have been “grading” citizens on their understanding of CLEAR.

CLEAR is an acronym for car theft prevention practices.

Things like closing and locking vehicle doors, eliminating belongings in plain view, and taking your vehicle keys and garage door openers with you when you leave your car, can all be essential in preventing vehicle break-ins.

If you receive a “failing” grade on a report card, it’s not a ticket. It’s a friendly reminder to keep clear of crime. According to Police Chief Steve Watson, when 20 cars were spot checked, 40% had valuables in plain sight.
