Race Across America: local educator’s mission to bike 3,000 miles begins

OCEANSIDE, CA. (KIEM) – The Race Across America begins!

After his first 24 hours, local educator Michael Davies-Hughes is making strides on his effort to bike 3,000 miles for children’s literacy.

On Tuesday, Eureka City Schools Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Michael Davies-Hughes left Oceanside in Southern California to embark on his journey to the Race Across America finish line in Annapolis, Maryland.

As of Wednesday night, Michael is already in Tuba City, Arizona.

The race will span over the next eleven days.

His travels are all to raise money for the Humboldt County Office of Education’s Early Literacy program.
