Ferndale mother accused of attacking daughter awaits judge ruling

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – Accused of trying to kill her young daughter, a Ferndale woman is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.

46-year-old Kimberly Ann Felder was back in court Friday morning.

Felder is suspected of attacking her 11-year-old daughter on Centerville Beach in Ferndale a year ago as of Saturday, by shoving sand in her mouth, and kicking and hitting her.

A bystander intervened and spared the girl further serious injuries.

Felder has since been kept in the Humboldt County Jail.

She is due back in court on Wednesday.

If Judge Christopher Wilson rules she was not legally insane during the attack, she could spend another twelve years in state prison.
