Earlier this week, we reported on seven, six-week-old kittens that had been intentionally drowned on the south side of town, near Eureka’s martin slough turnout. Today our Kylie Walker visited the Sequoia Humane Society, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office to find out more.

It was 6:30 a.m. when a delivery guy found a kitten in critical condition at the turnout near the end of the slough bridge. He then took it over to the sequoia humane society.

Members of the humane society immediately got in their car and headed to the bridge while the dehydrated kitten was being treated at the facility.

One of the volunteer’s couldn’t believe what she saw, a kitten still alive, buried under a rock. They then called animal control who transported the kittens to Broadway Animal Clinic. Sadly, there the two kittens passed away as a result of their injuries.

Karges says if there is ever a point where you can no longer care for your animal. There are multiple local shelters and rescues that will take them with open arms.

This case is still under investigation and the Sheriff’s office could use more information. We’re told that one of the black kittens had a white belly, with a speck of white on his nose. The other was fully black.
