Arrest in Arcata goes viral

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) A series of unsettling videos are swirling the web leaving people enraged. An arrest was captured on camera, on the day of Oysterfest in Arcata.

Humboldt State University Sergeant Janelle Jackson, made a traffic stop at 9th and H street after witnessing a passenger hanging outside of a car’s sunroof. Minutes later, another passenger in the vehicle, Samantha Alonso-Luna, 20, of Eureka, is seen in the video. She was asked by the officer for identification when a verbal altercation turned physical, other officers responded to the scene, and took Alonso-Luna into custody.

Chief Donn Peterson, University police said he has viewed the video, and tell us what’s next in the investigation.

“We are going to look at all aspects to this,” said Peterson “Policy, procedure, state law. We will look at a thorough review.”

Alonso-Luna was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest, public intoxication, battery, and providing false identification to a police officer. She is currently a student at College of the Redwoods.
