St. Joseph, Redwood Memorial Hospital Housekeepers Protest

EUREKA – St. Joseph and Redwood Memorial Hospital Housekeepers are protesting for having to use a certain cleaning chemical. The workers say their hospital cleaning and disinfectant solution, oxycide, is making them sick.

For the last two years housekeepers at both hospitals have been required to use oxycide – a one-step cleaner, disinfectant, and deodorizer.

They say it’s caused them respiratory problems, burning noses, burning eyes, rashes and severe headaches. The demonstration is an effort to get an arbitrator order to the hospitals to use less toxic cleaning agents.

They hope that their voices are heard and recognized to change the working conditions they’re currently dealing with.
