US Forest Service firefighters find detonated pipe bomb near Orleans

 

 

 

 

 

 

ORLEANS, CA. (KIEM) From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office: 

On June 18, 2018, at about 1:30 p.m., firefighters with the United States Forest Service (USFS) located a detonated pipe bomb while attempting to suppress a small brush fire in the area of the Ullathorne boat ramp near Orleans. Firefighters evacuated the area and notified the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center, advising the possibility of other pipe bombs in the area.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was dispatched to the scene and confirmed the detonated pipe bomb was no longer a threat. Deputies were unable to locate additional bombs in the area. It is unknown at this time if the detonated pipe bomb started the brush fire. The fire was successfully suppressed by USFS firefighters.
