Ferndale mother in court for attempted murder found not guilty by reason of insanity

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – A Ferndale mother accused of a trying to kill her daughter in an attempted exorcism is found not guilty in court.

46-year-old Kimberly Ann Felder attacked her 11-year-old daughter on a Ferndale beach in June of last year, but the not guilty verdict comes from Felder’s state of mind during the attack that day.

On Wednesday, Judge Christopher Wilson responded to reports from two doctors who evaluated Felder.

They both said Felder was “incapable of understanding the nature and quality of her acts, and of distinguishing right from wrong.”

Felder will be placed for treatment at a mental hospital, and will undergo one year of outpatient treatment in Humboldt County.
