It’s about being proactive, rather than reactive for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, and the Public Transit Authority. The Active Assailant Readiness Training is a free program offered by the sheriff’s office to local businesses, community organizations, and schools.

The sheriff’s office hopes to change the language of an active shooter due to the fact that many mass casualties aren’t just happening with guns.

Samantha Karges of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, says active assailant situations can be over in ten minutes and law enforcement might not be able to respond in time. So it’s crucial for organizations to have protocols and procedures that may mitigate a situation and protect as many lives as possible.

During the two-hour presentation deputies talked about the different mass casualties that have occurred over the past few years and the details of each massacre.

The sheriff’s office hopes to prepare as many organizations as they can for any incident that may occur…you can contact the sheriff’s office f you would like to learn more about this free training.
