Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- “I just want people to know that our responsibility here at the jail is for all of us to be safe and to make the community safer. But it’s also to protect and care for the people who are incarcerated.” Captain Duane Christian, a correctional deputy with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office explains.

It is for that reason, that Corporal Michael Mendiburu designed a four hour training. Deputies at the jail go through the course to learn the proper ways to deal with conflict and resistance. They learn to subdue inmates without hurting them, they even use a fairly new dummy for training exercises.
