Transient woman arrested for assaulting elderly man

ARCATA- A transient woman is arrested in Arcata for assaulting an elderly man. Humboldt County sheriff’s deputies responded to the attack on the 5000 block of Valley West Boulevard at about nine Wednesday night.

The victim was in a tent under the slough bridge north of Giuntoli Lane when a verbal fight broke out between him, and the suspect, 34-year-old Andrea Lynn Russell.

The sheriff’s office said when the man tried to leave the tent, Russell started striking him with rocks, then an exhaust pipe. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Russell was booked on charges of elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon.
