Klamathon Fire ignites in Hornbrook, prompting I-5 closure

HORNBROOK, Calif. (KIEM) – Fire crews are battling a rapidly growing wildfire that sparked this afternoon.

The I-5 is closed in bother directions from Yreka to the Oregon border, to keep travelers away from the blaze.

Governor Brown declared a state of emergency for Siskiyou County due to the so-called “Klamathon Fire”, which started around 1PM Thursday afternoon in Hornbrook.

Winds quickly spread the fire to one-thousand acres within a few hours.

Those flames burned 5,000 acres by Wednesday night.

Hundreds of evacuation orders have been put in place, and flames have already reached multiple structures.

So far, the fire is 0% percent contained.
