Blue Lake, Ca., (KIEM) For 50 years and counting the City of Blue Lake have been celebrating Annie Carroll and Mary Buckley.

Annie and Mary Day is a celebration of the historic Arcata Mad River Rail line named after the two women who were employed as book keepers by the railroad.

“Originally the railroad that came to Blue Lake was called the Arcata Mad River Railroad and in 1907 there were two bookkeepers that worked for the railroad Annie and Mary,” Blue Lake Chamber of Commerce, President Marvin Samuel said. “So all the loggers that use to ride the trail back and forth and also tourists started calling it the Annie Mary railroad.”

Annie and Mary Day has been celebrated every year since 1967.
