Fortuna, Ca., (KIEM)- More than 2,000 fire fighters are putting their lives on the line in defense of neighborhoods still under evacuation (as they lie in the path of the County Fire). Cal Fire says they’re literally fighting an uphill battle.

Since its ignition on June 30th, its now more than 88,000 acres in size and just 57% contained. the county fire is burning through steep terrain, fire crews say, the landscape makes getting at the fire a challenge. Evacuation orders may have been lifted along the eastern shore of Lake Berryessa, East of the Napa/Yolo County Line, and North of State Highway 128. Many still cannot return to their homes.

As for the Klamathon Fire, 72 have been destroyed by the 30,500 acre blze. That wild land blaze is burning in Siskiyou county, forcing evacuations for the communities of Hornbrook, Hilt, Colestin and Irongate Reservoir.

Fire managers say the Osburger Cabin Cultural site is threatened by the south flank of the fire. The Klamathon Fire continues to burn moderately to the southeast and continues to spread into the Klamath National Forest. It is already burning the Horseshoe Ranch Wildlife area. The Klamathon Fire is only 25% contained.
