36,500 acre Klamathon Fire reaches 55% containment

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – The destructive Klamathon wildfire continues to spread along our shared border with Oregon.

The fire started last Thursday in Siskiyou County and spread to Jackson County in Oregon.

It’s consumed some 36,500 acres and as of Tuesday evening is 55% contained.

Three firefighters have been injured fighting the fire, and at least one civilian has been killed.

More than 800 structures are threatened by the blaze, while over 80 have been destroyed, and 12 have been damaged.

No word yet on what exactly started the fire, and when it might be contained.
