Dead shark washed ashore near Ma-le’l Dunes

A 3-foot dead shark was found washed ashore Tuesday near the Ma-le’l Dunes in Manila.

Earthquake expert of Humboldt, Lori Dengler says, “The consensus is that it was a Salmon Shark. They have been sited here before – not super common, but every couple of years someone sees one.”

Humboldt Biologist, Ron Fritzsche says, “The typical situation is a young salmon shark that appears to be healthy and relatively fresh.  Sometimes with an eye damaged by birds.  The hypothesis is that they are pursuing small fish such as smelt and are thrown onto the sand beach by waves.  Not sure why this one appears to have had a fillet removed.”
