Mountain lion spotted in Arcata

ARCATA., Ca- This morning residents spotted a mountain lion outside of the Arcata community forest. No other encounters have been reported since this morning. The Arcata Police posted on their Facebook just before 11-am that the wild animal was spotted off of Fickle Hill Road. Although it’s not unusual to see a mountain lion in the community forest, it’s still something to take very seriously. Especially, if you are exploring the forest with children. Thanks to the post, the Redwood Day Camp heard the news and began following their safety protocol.

If you encounter a mountain lion or any large wild animal, be sure to stand your ground and stay calm. If it moves in your direction raise your arms to look bigger or open your jacket. Wave your arms slowly and speak firmly in a loud voice. It’s better to make it afraid of you then for you to be afraid of it.
