County Fire 100% contained, new Eighty Eight Fire nearby grows to over 800 acres

YOLO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – Some evacuations were requested in Yolo County, as a result of the newly sparked Eighty Eight Fire. (Latest evacuation information can be found, here.)

The Eighty Eight Fire is in close proximity to the now fully contained County Fire, and started as a grass fire on Wednesday at about 4:00PM.

It quickly spread to 80 acres, and some residents north of Winters were asked to evacuate.

The fire grew to over 800 acres by 8:00PM this evening, but firefighters are keeping up with containment, already at 40%.

Cal Fire says the County Fire was started by an improperly installed electric livestock fence.

The agency urges residents to follow proper installation, and operation guidelines on owner’s manuals when installing equipment that can cause a wildland fire.
