Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office sees increase in vehicle burglaries, shares safety tips

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve seen a spike in vehicle burglaries at popular beach and hiking spots across the county, but that in many of those cases, the victims left valuables unattended, and in plain sight.

The Sheriff’s Office warns to never leave anything in plain sight, and urges these tips to prevent theft:

From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:

“We’ve received several reports of vehicle burglaries at popular beach and hiking spots across the county. Please remember that crime prevention begins with you! In many of these cases, the victims left their valuables unattended in plain site. Never leave ANYTHING in plain site within your vehicle. Even a pair of sunglasses is enough to tempt a thief to break into your vehicle. Also, be cautious about leaving anything in your trunk if your trunk is able to be opened from inside your vehicle. #crimeprevention #takeyourvaluableswithyou
