Eel Fire containment up to 40%, mandatory evacuations lowered to advisory

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – The 1,000 acre Eel Fire in Mendocino County is 40% contained as of Friday night.

Burning about ten miles east of Covelo, mandatory evacuations are lifted along the M1 North Road from the Mendocino Forest Serivces’s Eel River Station to Indian Dick Station – although, evacuation advisories remain in place.

About 100 personnel are working to extinguish the blaze, which ignited on Tuesday.

The cause is still under investigation.
