Humboldt County Agriculture Department holds Sea Level Rise Workshop

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) Sea level rise may be a potential problem for residents of King Salmon and Fields Landing, in the near future.

Because of that, the Humboldt County Agriculture Department planned a, Strategic Sea Level Rise Adaptation Planning Public Workshop, Tuesday, where the community came out to learn how to adapt, if ever sea levels are to rise.

“Seawalls. You’ll notice in front of King Salmon, years ago, they built that beach up with a smaller seawall so it didn’t have the wash over,” said District 1, Rex Bohn. “We might have to do more with that community to keep that sea level rise out. Any type of excessive wave action, not a tsunami, but any excessive wave action could create impact to lower rise level areas.”

Bohn says because residents from King Salmon and Fields Landing are in a flood prone area, residents may already see an increase in their insurance.
