Thirty minute foot chase ends in an arrest in Fortuna

Fortuna, Ca., (KIEM)- When Fortuna Police officers tried to pull over twenty-four-year-old Robert Zabel, he allegedly got out of his car and led police on a half hour chase.

In Campton Heights, around 11:30 a.m., officers stopped Zabel, saying he ran a stop sign at School and Rohnerville Road. During the stop, officers say they smelled marijuana and asked the young man to step out of his vehicle.

Then, the chase began. Police say the suspect jumped fences and bolted into back yards. With the help of neighbors, police apprehended the Illinois man. He was arrested and is booked at the Humboldt County Jail for Failure to stop at a stop sign, resisting arrest, possession of concentrated cannabis, and possession of concentrated cannabis for sales.
