Carr Fire reaches 183,633 acres, new Hat Fire already 25% contained

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – The Carr Fire is 53% contained as of Friday night, up from 51% earlier in the day.

It’s a long winded fight that could last weeks, or months. The devastating and deadly fire has destroyed more than 1,000 homes and claimed 8 lives.

As of Friday night, the Carr Fire is 183,633 acres.

The Shasta College and Trinity High School shelters were closed Friday morning, and a Disaster Recovery Assistance Center has been set up in the old Kmart building in Redding.

More than 4,600 people are still fighting the Carr Fire as of Friday night.

Also burning in Shasta County, the Hat Fire is already 25% contained.

The Hat Fire started Thursday afternoon in northeast Shasta County. It is about 1,900 acres in size.

Evacuations are still in place for the Hat Fire, and a power outage forced the evacuation center to move to Adin.

381 people are working to fight the Hat Fire in hot, dry, and gusty conditions.
