Yosemite National Park reopens amid wildfire conditions, visitor limitations expected

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KIEM) – After wildfires forced Yosemite Valley to shut down, the famous park is reopened this week, on a limited basis.

For the past 20 days Yosemite National Park was forced to close because of heavy smoke from the Ferguson Fire.

Visitors to the park can still expect to see significant impacts from the fires.

The National Parks Service says there is still some fire activity on park grounds, and firefighter operations could cause delays on some roads.

Park officials say visitors to the park should take it easy because there is smoke still in the area.

Park offices are also expected to have limited hours, and visitor services, as the park starts to normalize operations.

Yosemite National Park Service posted this message on their Twitter page on Monday:

“Yosemite Valley reopens tomorrow! Wawona and Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias reopened today! Air quality has been good to moderate parts of the park, but unhealthy in Yosemite Valley. If recreating in the Valley, reduce prolonged or heavy exertion and take breaks.”
