Tonight, we remember 9/11, and the lives lost that tragic day, that is forever etched into the history of our country. Among those lives lost, a Humboldt County man was killed on flight 93. And today, the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge is honoring him.

Richard Guadagno was a Refuge Manager at the time of the hijacking and crash. Today, memories of him were laid out, along with letters, written from people near and far. Photos were also showcased, along with awards granted on his behalf.

Today, we spoke with Refuge Manager Erik Nelson, who expressed how Guadagno’s time was cut too short.

There are several plaques that have been dedicated to Guadagno. One from the rotary club, and others from the community. A memorial fund was also established in his honor, to provide scholarships for local students.
