93-year-old Australian National Airlifted from cruise ship near Shelter Cove

EUREKA, CA., (KIEM)- The US Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay, airlifts a 93-year-old Australian national to St. Joseph Hospital overnight.

The woman, whose identity was not released, was on board the “Island Princess”, a cruise ship, about 20 miles west of shelter cove. Just after 5:00 Friday night the woman needed immediate medical attention.

Coast Guard Sector Humboldt bay sent a MH-65 Dolphin and rescue swimmer, to hoist the patient from the cruise ship deck into the helicopter. The woman was medivaced to the hospital, and her condition is unknown at this time.

“When people go out on the water, things don’t always go according to plan,” said Lt. Thomas Cogley, the pilot who flew on this case – his first search and rescue case. “That’s why we continually train for situations like these. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better crew to execute this mission.”
