Arson possible in overnight fire on Humboldt Hill

EUREKA, CA., (KIEM)- An investigation is underway after a house fire on Humboldt Hill shut down Loma Avenue for several hours Saturday night.

The fire started just after 10:00 p.m. Saturday, and Humboldt Bay Fire made quick work of putting out the flames. There was no one inside the house and there are no injuries to report.

12:00 a.m. Sunday, flames were out on Loma Avenue, but HBF had already started to investigate. This fire may have been a case of arson.

This house has been on fire before, HBF responded to an incident in August of this year. That’s why, as Battalion Chief Tim Citro explains, fire crews are launching an investigation into the incident.

“The house had already been red tagged by the county and condemned after the previous fire we had here.” He said, “But we were called tonight and found heavy fire coming from it again, so its suspicious in nature right now. There is no electrical or any power to the building so it’s definitely suspicious.”
