“National Fire Prevention Week” is observed each year in commemoration of the 1870’s “Great Chicago Fire.”  And today, Fortuna volunteer firefighters spent their day educating young students at local schools.

Kyle Kertscher, with the fire department, spoke with 1st graders at South Fortuna Elementary. He taught  them about fire safety and answered questions, but Kertscher didn’t just talk about fire prevention. He also touched on everything from tsunami evacuations, to hazardous chemicals.

Kertscher tells us the department will continue to give presentations to students in kindergarten to 2nd grade for the rest of the week.
